A practical inventory. What's actually creating leverage in my client orgs today, and what isn't yet.
Working today.
Creative brief synthesis. Agents that read last week's performance data, your brand framework and your competitor ad libraries, and draft a creative brief by Monday morning. Saves four to six hours a week per growth marketer. The brief still gets edited, but the blank page is gone.
Hook and headline generation against a messaging house. Not "write me ad copy." A workflow where the agent has your three messaging pillars, your tone rules and your offer matrix loaded. It outputs 50 hooks tagged by pillar. A human picks ten. Cuts ideation time by roughly 70%.
Customer support to marketing insight pipeline. Every support ticket gets parsed for unmet need, objection or product friction, and fed weekly to the marketing team. Used to take a quarterly survey to learn what we now learn on Tuesday.
Lifecycle copy at scale. Personalized email and SMS bodies generated against customer cohort data, then human reviewed before send. In the tests I've run, this lifts open rates 15 to 25%.
Internal knowledge agents. The "what did we decide about X positioning in March" agent that any team member can ask. Replaces the institutional memory that walks out the door when someone leaves.
Not quite there yet.
End to end ad generation. Models can do hooks, copy and storyboards. They cannot yet do a finished, on-brand 30 second video that reliably out-performs a senior creator. The ones that do well in tests usually win on novelty, then taper on the second flight.
Autonomous media buying. Many of the "AI media buyer" tools are wrappers on platform algorithms that already exist. The lift over a senior buyer is often marginal, so I'd test before committing budget.
Brand strategy. Models are very good at sounding strategic and less good at being strategic. They're useful for pressure-testing your strategy, less reliable for writing it.
The frame I use with founders.
AI agents are useful for the parts of marketing that are pattern matching at volume. They're still developing on the parts that are taste, timing or politics. Hire and tool accordingly, and revisit every quarter.
